Best Rogers Unlimited Data Plan

For $84.99 a month, it is possible for a home to access unlimited internet with download speeds up to 75MBPS. Up to 7 devices are allowed on this plan, known as the ‘Ignite Internet 75u’. This plan comes with the inclusion of a router and operates on a fiber powered network for optimum performance. Ignite is the brand name of the unlimited data WiFi service, with its own application and website. The application allows users to manage their plan, troubleshoot connectivity issues,  and to see who is connected on a particular device to their network. It also allows parental controls and time limits on usage for families who want to protect their children.

Rogers provides their own ‘wall to wall’ Wifi service to reach all areas of a home. The WiFi adapts to the unique layout of a home to avoid signal interference. However, this is an additional service for larger homes or properties with unique designs. It is not included in the Ignite Internet Plan.

Best Rogers Talk & Text Plan

Rogers offers an unlimited talk and text plan for $25 a month. This is the most popular plan offered by Rogers, featuring unlimited text messages, unlimited local calls at specific hours, and 50 minutes of free calls outside of these times. International texts cost $0.35c per message, $0.30c for additional calls, and $0.50c for long-distance calls.

The plan includes Call Display, Voicemail, Call Forwarding, Call Waiting, and Group Calling. Users can keep their existing phone numbers and pay monthly as long as they have a prepaid phone. Rogers also offers unlimited talk, text, and data plans. Most will want to access data along with their voice and text services. For a little additional cost, it is usually worth the money. You can purchase the phone from Rogers, as they also sell the hardware and are a major retail outlet.

With the standard phone plans (not prepaid) there is no text messaging facility. At $20 per month, a home can make use of unlimited data voice calls with free Canada and US calls (a cost of $65 applies for a one-time purchase of the hardware).

Long-distance options are also available at a great cost – just $5 for 500 minutes to Asia and  $5 for 200 minutes to Europe. This is extremely helpful for families that make calls to these regions. It’s easy to add specific countries at a low cost, such as Hong Kong, India, Ireland, etc.

Best Data Only Plan

One of the best data plans available with Rogers is the ‘Business Internet Pro’ plan. Rogers caters not just to Canadian families but also to small businesses and larger enterprises. The Business Internet Pro package is designed for small businesses that want business-grade internet with superb connectivity and speeds.

The plan costs $99.99 per month and includes Long Term Evolution (‘LTE’) wireless backup as well as Microsoft Office 365. This plan is currently reduced from $156.99 and offers network-level security, unlimited bandwidth, specialist support, 1GB download speeds and round-the-clock customer service support. This is a limited down offer with a 3-year minimum contract. But it offers excellent value for money for small businesses.

The LTE backup is particularly appealing for small businesses – if anything happens to the primary line, then this backup will kick in to protect vital business communications. Though the primary business line is itself fairly stable and monitored 24/7 by the Rogers team. Malicious sites are automatically blocked at the network level for enhanced security.  For businesses who have yet to purchase Office 365, this is the perfect package.

Rogers Network Coverage

Rogers provides the best network coverage in Canada. Compared to other Canadian providers, Rogers was awarded the ‘Best in Test’ for user experience on a day to day basis. Rogers' coverage extends over Saskatchewan, Alberta, BC, Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec, with additional service in select regions of the Maritimes, Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Territories.

Their website features an online network coverage map, where people can view what levels of coverage are available in a particular area. As well as the standard network coverage map, Rogers has a 5G network coverage map for people who wish to use this technology.

Rogers provides extended coverage to customers who are out of the reach of its cell towers.

Extended coverage occurs when a carrier does not have a tower in a specific region but has contracts in place with another carrier that has a tower in that region. Considering the extended coverage, Rogers can cover practically everyone in Canada. Some features can be affected when using extended coverage, such as call display, shortcodes, and 411 directory assistance. Extended coverage is provided for people who live within the Rogers standard area of coverage but sometimes travel outside it.

Rogers will continue to expand its 5G network, building on an already impressive 4G LTE infrastructure. The carrier is partnered with Eriksson to ensure that all Rogers 5G devices are certified to the security standards of the Canadian Government. In a few short years, Rogers expects to have nationwide 5G coverage. This 5G network will have the capacity to provide for an Internet of Things (‘IOT’) society, or at least be the first step.
