Having extended coverage means getting wider network coverage, far beyond the area of Koodo’s HSPA+ and LTE networks. Through their wireless carrier partners, they are able to extend the coverage of your mobile plan.
Only Koodo Mobile’s postpaid customers with phones that support HSPA+ or LTE can take advantage of extended coverage. In addition, your main residence and billing address must be within the range of Koodo’s networks. It’s good to know this feature won’t have an effect on your usage or billing.
Areas covered by this feature include:
• Sanilac extended coverage: Ann Arbor, Detroit, Flint, Monroe, Pontiac, Port Huron, and Port Sanilac
• Windsor extended coverage: Ann Arbor, Detroit, Flint, Leamington, Monroe, Port Huron, and Windsor
Data and call sessions will disconnect as you enter the areas covered by extended coverage. Within a few seconds, your phone will be on the extended network. An EXT sign will replace Koodo at the top part of the phone’s screen once it does.
After the reconnection, you will have to redial a phone number or restart a data session to pick up where you left off.
Areas covered by the extended network have lower data speeds compared to areas within Koodo’s networks. Let’s say you like streaming videos. When you’re on the extended network, your videos will usually take a longer time to load. In certain areas, some applications might not even be available.
The same goes for your data, text, and voice services. You are limited to as much as half the total monthly usage of each service. When you go over the limit, you may be disconnected from the extended network.
With Koodo Mobile’s nationwide plans, you can call friends and loved ones from anywhere in the country without having to pay for long-distance service charges. Just take note that all long-distance calls will still depend on your plan’s anytime minutes.
Boosters. Take advantage of these add-ons to make local, long-distance or international calls. Whether you need long-distance minutes, anytime minutes, or data, you can add a Talk or Data Booster to your base plan.
Need to call someone from a difference Canadian province? If so, a Talk Booster add-on is what you need. You can get a call through to any province or territory in Canada. To make international calls, your base plan needs any of the Long-Distance Booster add-ons. With it, you can make calls to 50 international destinations.
US Roaming Boosters are available for Koodo Mobile users who plan on using their phone across the border. All 50 states are covered by these services. That includes Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.

Use a local number during your time abroad. Before your trip, have your phone unlocked so you can buy a local SIM card at wherever you’re heading. Call 1-866-99-KOODO to unlock your phone. As of December 2017, Canadian law has required all merchants to sell only unlocked phones. In case you have an older phone, you can easily have it unlocked any time.
Koodo’s Seasonal Hold plan is ideal for businessmen and travellers. This $15 per month plan only covers six months, so users can retain their Koodo account and phone number when they travel abroad. It temporarily suspends your services, including data, voice, and text messaging.
Only customers leaving Canada for more than a month are eligible to purchase the Seasonal Hold plan.
